Computer hardware works as a system. Your processor, memory, graphics card, storage, motherboard, cooling, power supply, and other components all contribute to overall performance.
The teKky Bench covers everything from CPUs, GPUs, RAM, SSDs, and motherboards to complete systems, workstations, and PC upgrades.
The goal isn't to build the most powerful computer possible. It's to match the hardware to the workload.
A PC used for everyday browsing and office work has very different needs from one built for gaming, content creation, video surveillance, or virtualization.
Buy too much and you may waste money. Buy too little and you'll sacrifice performance or need to upgrade sooner.
The right PC is the one that gives you the performance you need for the work you actually do.
Build prices are estimates and can change as component prices, availability, and technology change. Peripherals and operating system costs are not included.
The The teKky Bench Build Rating is our editorial scoring system for evaluating the complete Gaming & Work PC builds featured on The Bench.
Instead of rating a PC only by how fast its processor or graphics card is, we look at the complete system—including gaming performance, productivity, upgrade potential, value, content creation, cooling, and airflow.
Our goal is to make the rating easy to understand whether you're an experienced PC builder or buying your first gaming PC.
The system can be understood with three simple rules:
Score = How good is it?
Impact = How much does it matter?
6.0 Minimum = Every category must pass.
Every build receives a 1–10 score across six categories. Each category also has an Impact on Overall Rating, which determines how much that category contributes to the final score.
🎮 Gaming Performance — 30% Impact
💼 Productivity — 20% Impact
🔧 Upgrade Potential — 15% Impact
💰 Value for Money — 15% Impact
🎬 Content Creation — 10% Impact
🌡️ Cooling & Airflow — 10% Impact
Total Impact — 100%
The Score tells you how well the PC performs in that category.
The Impact tells you how much that category influences the Overall Build Rating.
Because these are Gaming & Work PCs, Gaming Performance has the greatest impact at 30%, followed by Productivity at 20%.
Not every category has the same effect on the experience of using a Gaming & Work PC.
Gaming Performance receives the highest impact because gaming is one of the primary purposes of these builds. Productivity is also heavily weighted because these systems are designed to handle work and everyday computing in addition to gaming.
Upgrade Potential and Value for Money each receive 15%, while Content Creation and Cooling & Airflow each receive 10%.
A lower percentage doesn't mean a category is unimportant.
Our 6.0 minimum requirement ensures that every category still has to meet an acceptable standard regardless of how much it contributes to the final score.
The Overall Build Rating is a weighted score.
That simply means categories with a greater impact contribute more to the final rating.
Here's an easy example:
🎮 Gaming Performance
Score: 8.5/10
Impact: 30%
8.5 × 30% = 2.55 points
Gaming Performance contributes 2.55 points toward the final 10-point rating.
Now let's give Cooling & Airflow the exact same score:
🌡️ Cooling & Airflow
Score: 8.5/10
Impact: 10%
8.5 × 10% = 0.85 points
Cooling & Airflow contributes 0.85 points toward the final rating.
Both categories received the same 8.5/10 score, but Gaming Performance contributes more because it has a greater impact on what these PCs are designed to do.
We perform the same calculation for all six categories and add the results together.
For example:
🎮 Gaming Performance: 8.5 × 30% = 2.55
💼 Productivity: 8.0 × 20% = 1.60
🔧 Upgrade Potential: 8.5 × 15% = 1.28
💰 Value for Money: 9.0 × 15% = 1.35
🎬 Content Creation: 7.5 × 10% = 0.75
🌡️ Cooling & Airflow: 8.5 × 10% = 0.85
Overall Score = 8.38/10
The final score is rounded to one decimal place:
The Overall Build Rating isn't the only requirement.
Every build recommended by The teKky Bench must score at least 6.0/10 in EVERY category.
This prevents one exceptionally strong part of a PC from hiding a major weakness somewhere else.
For example, a PC could have an extremely powerful graphics card and receive an excellent Gaming Performance score. But if the system has inadequate cooling, poor upgrade potential, unacceptable value, or another major weakness, we don't consider it a well-balanced recommended build.
Even if the weighted calculation produces a high Overall Build Rating, a score below 6.0 in any individual category means the build does not meet our recommendation standard.
Every category must pass.
🎮 Gaming Performance — 30% Impact
We evaluate the complete gaming capability of the system, including the CPU and GPU combination, target gaming resolution, graphics memory, expected frame-rate performance, CPU/GPU balance, and performance in demanding games.
Gaming receives the greatest impact because it is one of the primary purposes of our Gaming & Work PC builds.
💼 Productivity — 20% Impact
We evaluate how well the PC handles everyday work and general computing.
This includes processor performance, multitasking, memory, storage responsiveness, networking, office applications, web-based workloads, and other common desktop tasks.
🔧 Upgrade Potential — 15% Impact
We evaluate how easily the PC can grow as your needs change.
This includes the CPU platform, motherboard capabilities, memory expansion, additional storage options, PCIe connectivity, case clearance, power-supply headroom, and future component compatibility.
💰 Value for Money — 15% Impact
Value for Money is evaluated relative to the intended price category of the build.
A Budget Friendly PC isn't expected to deliver the same absolute performance as a $3,000+ High Performance system.
Instead, we look at whether the selected components provide an appropriate combination of performance, features, quality, reliability, and upgrade potential for the amount of money being spent.
This allows a Budget Friendly build to earn an excellent Value score without pretending it performs like a much more expensive system.
🎬 Content Creation — 10% Impact
We evaluate how well the system is suited for workloads such as streaming, photo editing, video editing, encoding, rendering, and other creative applications.
CPU performance, GPU capabilities, memory, storage, and hardware-accelerated media capabilities are considered where applicable.
🌡️ Cooling & Airflow — 10% Impact
We evaluate whether the cooling configuration is appropriate for the hardware inside the PC.
This includes CPU cooling, case airflow, fan configuration, radiator support, component clearance, thermal headroom, and the cooling requirements of the selected components.
Cooling & Airflow may represent 10% of the Overall Build Rating, but it still must meet our 6.0 minimum recommendation standard.
After all six weighted scores are combined, the Overall Build Rating is rounded to one decimal place.
🏆 9.0–10.0 — OUTSTANDING
⭐ 8.0–8.9 — EXCELLENT
👍 7.0–7.9 — VERY GOOD
✓ 6.0–6.9 — GOOD
❌ Any Category Below 6.0 — NOT RECOMMENDED
A build can mathematically receive an Overall Build Rating above 6.0 and still be classified as Not Recommended if one of its individual categories fails to meet our minimum standard.
The The teKky Bench Build Rating is our own editorial scoring methodology.
Our scores aren't copied from a retailer, manufacturer, benchmark website, or another review publication.
Instead, we research and cross-reference information from multiple sources when evaluating each build.
Official manufacturer documentation is our preferred source for technical specifications and compatibility.
Depending on the components being evaluated, this can include documentation from manufacturers such as AMD, Intel, NVIDIA, ASUS, MSI, Corsair, SanDisk, Cooler Master, MONTECH, and other manufacturers represented in a particular build.
For performance that can't be determined from specifications alone, we compare independent reviews, benchmarks, testing, and technical analysis from established hardware publications and testing sources.
This helps us evaluate areas such as:
Gaming Performance • Productivity • Thermals • Power Consumption • Content Creation • Compatibility • Upgradeability
Retailers such as Amazon are primarily used to evaluate current pricing and availability.
Retailer descriptions can provide useful information, but we don't rely on a retailer listing alone when an authoritative manufacturer or independent technical source is available.
Whenever practical, important information is cross-referenced across multiple reliable sources before it influences a rating.
A component having impressive specifications doesn't automatically mean it receives a high score.
Graphics memory, CPU core count, memory speed, SSD read speed, power-supply wattage, and other specifications can help us understand the hardware, but those numbers don't tell the entire story.
We also consider real-world performance, compatibility, current pricing, and how the components work together as a complete system.
That's why The teKky Bench rates the complete build, not simply the specifications printed on the box.
The purpose of the rating isn't to make every build score as high as possible.
It also isn't meant to simply tell you that a $3,000 PC is faster than a $1,000 PC.
The goal is to answer a much more useful question:
A more expensive PC doesn't automatically receive a better rating.
A Budget Friendly PC doesn't automatically receive a lower rating.
Every build is evaluated using the same six categories and the same minimum recommendation standard.
We look for the right balance of:
Performance • Reliability • Compatibility • Cooling • Upgradeability • Features • Value
If a build makes sense for its intended purpose, earns a strong weighted Overall Build Rating, and scores 6.0/10 or higher in every category, it can earn a recommendation from The teKky Bench.
Score = How good is it?
Impact = How much does it matter?
6.0 Minimum = Every category must pass.

I prefer this length because it gives Peripherals & Accessories its own philosophy without turning the introduction into another full article. Then your permanent “Why These Recommendations Work” section can explain the recommendation methodology in more detail.
The right peripherals and accessories can make any PC setup more comfortable, productive, and enjoyable. These recommendations are designed to complement any of our PC builds and help you get more from your complete setup.
Unlike our complete PC builds, Peripherals & Accessories do not receive a numerical teKky Bench rating.
The peripheral market changes quickly. Manufacturers regularly introduce new models, features, revisions, and competing products, while pricing and availability can change just as fast.
More importantly, the best peripheral often depends on how you use your PC. Display size, keyboard feel, mouse shape, audio preferences, connectivity, desk space, and other features can matter differently from one person to another.
Instead of assigning a score that may quickly become outdated, The teKky Bench focuses on helping you understand what each product offers, who it makes sense for, and what to consider before buying.
Our goal is simple:
Give you the information you need to decide whether the gear makes sense for your setup—not tell you that one product is automatically better because it received a higher number.
These recommendations are selected to work well across any of The teKky Bench PC builds, regardless of the system's price or performance level.
The goal is to recommend products that provide a practical combination of functionality, compatibility, useful features, and overall value rather than simply choosing the most expensive options available.
Peripherals and accessories are also highly personal. Individual preferences, workspace, intended use, and budget can all influence which products are the best fit. These recommendations are intended to provide a strong starting point, not suggest that there is only one correct choice.
Whenever possible, products are selected with broad compatibility and everyday usefulness in mind so they can continue to be useful through future PC upgrades or even entirely new builds.
Not every recommended product will be necessary for every setup, and alternatives can easily be substituted based on personal preference without changing the overall PC build.
The idea is simple: choose practical accessories that complement the computer, provide features that are actually useful, and make sense for the way the system will be used.
That approach allows these recommendations to remain flexible, interchangeable, and relevant across The teKky Bench builds as individual products, pricing, and availability change.
You just want Wi-Fi that's fast and reliable.
